Where to stay near Belém Tower
There are two sensible choices. Either you sleep in Belém and start the day at the sights, or you stay in central Lisbon and travel out by tram, train or bus. Belém is connected by tram 15E, buses 714 and 728 and the CP Cascais line, so a hotel in the centre is not cut off from the tower. This page covers the district only. For areas across the whole city, see the guide on where to stay in Lisbon.
Room prices and availability depend on your dates, so compare them on the booking site you use. The tower reopened to visitors on 27 May 2026 after restoration, and a ticket for it includes a date and a time. A hotel in the district helps if you want an early slot. For the full list of tickets, see the page on tickets.

Belém or the centre: a comparison
What changes with the base you choose.
| Topic | Sleep in Belém | Sleep in the centre |
|---|---|---|
| Morning at the tower | You start in the district | Train from Cais do Sodré (8 minutes scheduled), tram 15E or buses 728 and 714 |
| Evening | The bakery is open until 9 p.m., and until 10 p.m. from 1 July to 30 September | Plan the way back and check late and weekend services |
| Day trips and the rest of the city | Travel into the centre first | Closer to the other districts |
| Travel cost | Fares only for trips into the city | Fares for the trip to Belém and back, or the Lisboa Card |
No travel time from a given hotel to the tower can be promised, as it depends on traffic and waiting time. The train is the only option with a fixed scheduled time.

Comparing hotels
Use the checklist below for this hotel and for any other you consider.
What to check before you book
Questions to answer for each hotel.
Which stop is close
Look at the map for the nearest stop of tram 15E, bus 714, bus 728 or the Belém station. Stops include Altinho for MAAT, the Coach Museum, the Jerónimos Monastery and the Centro Cultural Belém.
Getting to Belém →Breakfast and parking
Ask whether breakfast is included and whether the hotel has parking and what it costs. Do not assume either. Parking near the sights is not free by default.
Noise and view
Ask for a quiet room if that matters to you, and check the room description for the view. A hotel name does not tell you either.
Cancellation
Read the cancellation terms before you pay. A tower slot is booked separately from the room, so keep your dates flexible if you can.
The overnight tax
The city set a tax of €4 per person and night, for up to 7 nights, which is €28 per person per stay. It applied from 1 September 2024. The age limit is given as 13 and older in one place and over 13 in another, so ask your hotel how it applies to a 13-year-old and confirm the current rate.
Weather when you plan the season
Long-term Lisbon averages for 1991 to 2020.
July and August are the driest months, with average highs of 28.2 °C and 28.8 °C and rainfall of 2.6 mm and 5.4 mm. November has the most rain, with 133.9 mm. April and May and September are milder than high summer. These are averages for the city, not a forecast for your dates, and they cannot guarantee a dry visit.

Where to stay in Belém: frequently asked questions
Is it better to stay in Belém or in central Lisbon?
It depends on your plan. A hotel in the district gives you an easy start for an early tower slot and the evening at the bakery. A hotel in the centre is closer to the other districts, and the train, tram and buses reach Belém.
Is there a hotel in Belém itself?
Yes, for example Altis Belém Hotel & Spa at Doca do Bom Sucesso, 1400-038 Lisboa. Check its rating, prices and facilities on its own page for your dates.
How much is the overnight tax?
The city set it at €4 per person and night, for up to 7 nights, so €28 per person per stay, from 1 September 2024. Confirm the current rate and the age limit with your hotel.
How do I get from the centre to Belém?
By tram 15E, bus 728, bus 714 or the Cascais train from Cais do Sodré. The page about getting there lists routes and 2026 fares.
Can I park at a Belém hotel?
Ask the hotel. Do not assume parking is offered or free, and do not count on free street parking near the tower.
